Volunteer Opportunities

Do you want to make a significant impact in your community?  Do you want to contribute to solving homelessness?  There are many opportunities at TFH to serve others by providing services of dignity and compassion to people in need!

We want to give you an opportunity to touch the lives of the hurting and broken in our community.  They are our neighbors and they need us!

Volunteer hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 11am, 11am – 1pm.  Fill out an application, meet with our Volunteer Coordinator , Stephanie Hollingshead and let’s see where you would best fit in serving at The Father’s Heart.  We know there’s a place for you!

Volunteer Areas:

Shower attendant: Must be comfortable with giving direction and explaining the program to each guest signed-up for a 10 minute shower.  Other responsibilities are keeping documentation of shower time, sanitizing in between each shower, and washing and drying clothing that is being exchanged.  Providing this service can make a huge impact on a guest physically and emotionally.

Kitchen:  Weekly commitment to being welcoming to guests, signing in, serving the lunch meal using a cart, cleaning in the dining area, obtaining a food handlers card or attending a TFH food handling class, and working as a team player for the best outcome possible for all being served.

12th St. Sign-ups Door: Must be hospitable, understanding and welcoming to all who come to sign up for services or bring in donations. Gives undivided attention and is not rushed.  This position monitors the use of the restroom, signs guests up for taking showers, seeing the doctor, haircuts, footcare and checking mail for guests.

Clothing Room: If you enjoy keeping things orderly, sorting , and on the meticulous side, this might be a fit for you!  We need volunteers who understand the high standards we have for our clothing exchange program.  We want our guests to receive gently-used or new clothing, with no stains or holes. Our desire is for our guests to feel good about their appearance and to receive clothing that is durable and appropriate to endure the rigors of living unsheltered.

Laundry: This laundry position is not a laundry service for guests’ personal laundry, but a necessity for our shower program to be successful.  We only launder clothing and towels that are a part of our clothing exchange in our shower program. Sometimes, this volunteer helps with prepping for other area needs in the laundry area while the laundry is running.

If you have a group of friends that would like to come after hours during the week to do deep cleaning projects, inside (windows, blinds, dusting, mopping, etc.) or outside (landscaping, leaf blowing, pressure washing, etc.), email us at shollingshead@tfhsm.org and we will have a project for you!
