We want to wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving this year in this every changing world. Now, more than ever, we understand the importance of gathering with friends and family. Now, more than ever , it is important to express gratitude. Thankfulness is healing. It’s as healing as giving.
Today was our annual Tuesday Thanksgiving meal. We were able to see some of that healing taking place. Whether it was through the wonderful meal provided with all the trimmings by Willamette Christian Church or the “stuffing” made by Betty Fish. All these acts of giving were healing.
Then there were the different small groups from churches and families that brought the decorations, the sparkling cider and pie! Can’t forget all the loving volunteers that came to serve and host the meal. Again, through giving of time, giving of service and giving of warm smiles, healing began to take place.
The best part was to see volunteers sitting with different guests and hearing their stories. It was good to be together and learn more about each other. There were stories of loss and the holidays being a difficult time and there were stories of joy and hope of seeing family. For some…for most we were their family. The interaction and the love was that was in the room was memorable.
Many guests made sure to express their appreciation. Some did not want to leave back to the streets. Others were happily leaving with a full stomach and the yearly “food coma” from the meal. We even teased about where was the wheel barrel to help them be able get down the hill.
Remember during this season of Thanksgiving to hold your dear ones close. Express your gratefulness and give to others in need.
