Did you know that The Father’s Heart is also an overnight Emergency Warming Shelter when the temperatures reach 33 degree wind chill? We’ve been hosting a night shelter in during the harsh winter elements for over 9 years. Our shelter is run by staff and volunteers from the community.
Each night we are open we serve a warm meal and provide a safe, peaceful warm place to sleep. The best parts of what happen at the night shelter, though, are the the seeds of hope and love that get planted. We call them divine appointments.
Recently, it happened again. A volunteer comes in to help at the night shelter. He’s full of hope and is willing to spend time listening to those that are broken and lost. This time, he sees someone that he went to school with. It hits hard how different their paths of life have been. With a Living Water-Book of John in hand, a listening ear and a meaningful conversation, seeds of hope are planted. Divine appointment.
Meeting physical and emotional needs are very important. We strive to always serve our guest with compassion and dignity. As a faith-based nonprofit, we also get the privilege of planting seeds of confident hope found in Jesus. We don’t preach sermons. We don’t cram religion. We love because Jesus has loved us. We stay ready to offer the hope that we have found in Him when someone inquires. He’s just too good to keep to ourselves.
